For the Love of John & June

By Theresa Elizabeth Sinclair
About the love affair that was Johnny and June Carter Cash. I wrote it because I had just seen the movie "Walk the Line". It was awesome!

Valerie June was only ten
When she captured John’s heart.
He knew that he loved her,
Right from the very start.

To his radio he listened
When he was a child
The love of her music
Would drive young Johnny wild.

Johnny grew up quickly
After his brother died.
Never to recover
No matter how he tried.

He would hide inside his music
Writing for the lonesome,
About life, love, despair,
And the Prison Blues of Folsom.

His mother gave him a hymnal
That got him through a spell.
But the dark side of the man
Became his external shell.

He started his career
With stars destined to shine,
Jerry Lee and Elvis
But for June he walked the line.

Although he had a family
John ached with desire.
Passion for his June became
A Burning Ring of Fire.

The man in black’s mournful music,
Like Four Strong Winds dower
A Ghost Rider in the sky
A pale Wildwood Flower

Lost in despair and agony
Cocaine blues can’t disguise
The love he was awaiting.
Shrouded by alibis.

John begged his Wildwood Flower please
To be his bride on tour.
She said no several times.
He kept coming back for more.

Their courtship was unusual
Not a storybook romance.
Surely a love worthy
Of an Oscar winning chance.

In front of all of their fans and friends
in nineteen sixty-eight.
June gave her heart to John
At last. A love bound by fate.

Happily ever after
Is how the story goes.
Passing into glory
Like an Old Faded Rose.
